NEZ DANGILAN IN DEPTH INTERVIEW OF
DANNY GLOVERIn February of this year, my wife and I had the opportunity to stand next to this famed movie actor and activist who happened to be the guest of honor at a senior function in Anchorage. I never expected Danny Glover to say yes, when I asked him for an interview for Fil Am Showtime on Chan 12. For me, as a television program producer, it was a chance of a lifetime. It was a momentous event for me personally and I am grateful to him.
He walked into my humble Fil Am Showtime downtown studio. Sitting down on the chair on stage quietly, his eyes closed as if meditating. My videographer and myself set up all the cameras, mikes, and lighting, as quietly as possible until all was ready. Then slowly, I sit next to him to start the interview. "Mr Grover,Sir, we are ready". Just like that, he opened up his eyes and smiled. Light, camera, action!
Danny Glover was born in San Francisco, California. His parents, both postal workers were active in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). I found out in the interview that he was almost my neighbor, only a few blocks away where I lived on Haight St in Central Avenue. Glover suffered from epilepsy as a teenager and young adult. He said, he has not suffered a seizure since the age of 35, thanks to a technique he developed himself.
He graduated from George Washington Hish School in San Francisco before attending City College of San Francisco for a year, he then matriculated to the San Francisco State College (now University) where he graduated with B.A. in Economics in 1968. Glover has had a variety of film stage and television roles and is best known for playing Los Angeles police Sgt Robert Martaugh in the Lethal Weapon series of action films. He also made many cameos. He appeared in the Michael Jackson video Liberian Girl of 1987. He has also received notice as the husband to Whoopi Goldberg's character Celie in the Color Purple and as Lt. James McFee in Witness. In 1994, he made his directional debut with a Showtime channel short film.
